Nicola & Matt’s Colourful Engagement Shoot

We don’t use much colour in our house, we opt for more of a neutral tone. So when we work with couples who want to use colour we love it! This bright and fun couple were full of energy so this bright shoot concept suited their personalities and also reflected what they had in mind for their big day.

DIY- BLUE WATER VASES: as featured on Hitched Magazine blog

This simple DIY is a great way to make an impact at your next function.

You Will Need:

Old decanters
Food colouring
Water
Gloves (unless you don’t mind dying your hands!)

Step 1: Clean and dry your decanters

1

Step 2: Put a few drops of food colouring into your decanters

2

Step 3: Add water to desired height

3

NOTE: You don’t need much colouring to create the look; but if you accidentally put too much in, after adding the water, tip some liquid into another empty decanter and keep adding water to dilute it until you achieve your desired colour.

STYLIST TIP: Teaming this look with flowers in one colour will create the ultimate impact. Other food colourings that work really well in water are pink and purple.

DIY FLOWER JARS- As seen in GT MAGAZINE

You will need:
Jars with lids
Thin Wire
Scissors
Small flower varieties
1
Step 1: Wrap wire all the way around the jar and twist to keep it in place. Loop through another piece back and forth across the top.
2
Step 2: Trim your flower so it’s shorter than the jar and put the stem in-between the 2 pieces of wire. Get another piece and wrap it around the stem to keep it in place.
3
Step 3: Trim off excess wire and put the lids on carefully.
4
Stylist Tip: Flower jars are a great unique way to display your blooms. Leave them even after the they die as they look equally as impacting.

DIY BOOK PAGE TABLE RUNNER: As seen on Hitched Magazine Blog

You will need:

Vintage Books – Older books work better for a more rustic result. If you want consistency, make sure the pages are similar in colour.
Glue sticks
A flat surface to work on

1

Step 1: Rip out lots of pages ready to start gluing. Having a rough edge adds to the charm, so don’t worry if they aren’t perfect.

2

Step 2: Figure out how wide you want the runner to be based on the table dimensions and start gluing them together. Try not to go past your desired width. You will need to keep checking this as you go.
Random placement is good but try to have a little structure to it. Then keep going until you reach the desired length and taper the ends to finish it off.

3

NOTE: If your making one for a long table, make the runner in sections for easier transport to venue.

4

5

STYLIST TIP: These table runners work great in book themed weddings. To tie it all in, use stacks of books alongside other props to make this look more complete.

A NEW USE FOR RUGS

Ever thought about using a rug in a new way?

Try hanging your rug up as a feature on a wall, layering 2 or more on the floor or for even more of a wow factor, cover some hand railing like in the pic below.

Styling is all about seeing things through new eyes, just because something was originally made with one purpose in mind, doesn’t mean you can’t use it for another.
